When the austenitic steel is bent or cut, magnetism sometimes occurs along the edge of the stainless steel due to the rearrangement of the crystal structure. Stainless Steel UNS S31000 Filler Wires are particularly susceptible to thread seizure, although other alloys that themselves produce a protective oxide film on the surface, such as aluminum and titanium, are also susceptible. When sliding with high contact force, this oxide can deform, fracture, and be removed from parts of the component, along with exposing the bare reactive metal. If the two surfaces are made of the same material, these exposed surfaces can easily be fused. The separation of the two surfaces can cause surface cracking and even complete seizure of the metal components or fasteners.

Solution treatment at about 1040 Degree C (1900 Degree F) and subsequent cooling results in a relatively ductile martensitic structure with 475 Degree C (887 Degree F), the Nb and Curich phases separate out, increasing the resistance to more than 1000 MPa elastic limit. This exceptional level of strength is used in high tech applications for SS 310 TIG Filler Wires such as aerospace (usually after overcasting to remove non-metallic inclusions that increase fatigue life). Another great advantage of this Alloy ER-310 Filler Wires is that aging, unlike tempering treatments, is performed at a temperature that can be applied to (almost) finished parts without deformation or discoloration.
